Student Information

We accept both full time and part time students. 1500 hours are required for a barbering license (350 if you have a cosmetology license.) Full time students are given 12 months to complete — most take only 10 months to finish. Full time students need to attend 40 hours a week, 8 AM to 5 PM Tuesday through Friday. Saturdays (8 AM to 3 PM) are mandatory for all students. Part-time schedules are flexible with 25 hours a week required.

School Tour

We schedule tours of the school by appointment only.  Tours are available Tuesday – Friday between 9 am and 1 pm.  Call (520) 887-0532 to schedule a tour.

Enroll

To enroll at HBC you must provide the following documents required by the Arizona State Board of Barbers:

  • Birth Certificate – (You must be at least 18 years old)
  • Picture ID – State Issue ID OR Drivers License
  • Proof of Education – High School Diploma OR GED OR High School Transcripts showing completion of 10th grade.  (Copy of cosmetology license if applicable)
  • Proof of Citizenship – And/or proof that you can legally work in the United States (Social Security card OR work permit OR passport card.)

Completion

For successful completion, students must pass 20 tests with a grade of 75% or better.  At the end of the program, when the student has completed the hours and tests, there is a fee of $140 payable to Arizona State Board of Barbers so the student will be able to take their test ($100) and get their license ($40.)

All financial obligations at Hollywood Barber College must be paid in full prior to the student’s graduation date and before the student will be referred to the Arizona Board of Barbers for Testing.

Tuition

Tuition at HBC is $9800 ($1400 is required as a down payment.  This down payment funds the barbering kit, textbook, uniform, including all registration/ testing fees. We offer a monthly payment plan for the remainder.

*Tuition is $4000 for those with a cosmetology license.

Financial Assistance

Financial assistance is available and is based on financial need.  Arizona@Work (Pima County One Stop) has partial grants for qualifying students. The time to qualify for a grant varies and is worth the effort. Contact (520) 724-9649 for more information.  

If you are 18 to 24 years old, contact Tucson Youth Development (520) 623-5843 for tuition assistance.

DES Vocation Rehabilitation

DES Vocational Rehabilitation supports individuals with disabilities.  Call (520) 623-2390. To qualify, you must provide medical records.

We also accept funding from the Veterans Administration Vocational Rehabilitation.
